| Outline | A reducer well-known as a developer for photographs. Its solution tastes slightly sweet, is highly reducing, and reduces alkaline silver solution and Fehling's solution. It is used industrially as a dye, intermediate product of organic synthesis, pharmaceutical product, antioxidant, and polymerization inhibitor, or their raw materials as well as a developer. It is also used as a reagent for various analyses, raw material for organic synthesis, etc. It is gradually oxidized in air and colored. A developer for black-and-white photographs. Because of slowness, it is scarcely used alone and is used in combination with metol or phenidone, which are rapid developers. |
