Application

Overview / Applications

Outline Antibiotics
The product exhibits a potent effect on Gram-negative bacteria and its effect on Gram-positive bacteria is slightly inferior. It is also effective against rickettsia and some viruses.
It selectively binds to 50S subunit of ribosomes and inhibits protein synthesis by inhibiting peptide transfer. It is used for selection of transformed cells using cat gene (chloramphenicol-resistant) as a selecting marker.
As a reagent of the molecular biology grade, it has been confirmed for DNase and RNase activities.
