Application
Overview / Applications
Outline | A typical alcohol fixative. It penetrates better than ethanol alone and is most suited to fixation of carbohydrates (usually transferred to a pure ethanol tank after fixation for 2 to 3 hours. It is generally used for demonstration of glycogen, histological examination of colon cancer and tissue fixation for Helicobacter pylori. However, as hemolysis by glacial acetic acid and cell contraction by ethanol may occur, it is necessary to select a fixative suited to the purpose. |
