Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR)

The NMR device is analytical instrument for the molecular structure of a substance at the atomic level by observing the nuclear spin resonance phenomenon by placing the chemicals in a strong magnetic field. Analysis of samples can be performed to the molecular structure at atomic level. It also has the advantage that pretreatment of the measurement sample is less than other analyzers. Conventionally, NMR has been used as a qualitative analysis, but due to the improvement in instrument performance, studies for quantitative analysis according to the number of moles are also underway.
In Japan, qNMR has been adopted by the Japanese Pharmacopoeia, Japan's Specifications and Standards for Food Additives and Japanese Industrial Standard (JIS). There have been multiple reports of cases where precise quantities have been able to be measured using qNMR. Currently the pharmaceutical manufacturers are using qNMR as an efficient, more sophisticated and faster analysis technology, and it is being used in the standardization of new drugs, quality management, management of process, and the confirmation of impurities such as residual solvents.
