| Outline | It is alpha-1,4-glucan, contained as storage carbohydrate in large amounts in storage organs (such as seeds and rootstalks) of higher plants. Starch is generally made of 20 to 25 % of components linking in a linear way with alpha1->4 bonds (amylose), and 75 to 80 % of amylopectin branched with alpha-1->6 bonds.
